Jason Statham at The Mechanic premiere at Planet Hollywood on Jan. 26, 2011.

Fans and paparazzi will pack Planet Hollywood tonight for the world premiere of “Homefront.” Sylvester Stallone, who wrote the screenplay, will lead the film’s stars Jason Statham, Kate Bosworth, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo and Izabel Viudovic and director Gary Fleder along a snaking red carpet through the casino.

British-born Jason, a regular Las Vegas visitor when his movies are released here, is the all-action star who plays a former Drug Enforcement Agent who moves to a quiet town with his 10-year-old daughter and discovers that the innocent place is headquarters for an undercover meth lord.

Jason and Sly have just wrapped filming “The Expendables 3” in Bulgaria with regulars Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Las Vegas’ Randy Couture, plus, newcomers Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes Antonio Banderas, Kellan Lutz and my good friend Robert Davi.

During filming, 46-year-old Jason, a former Olympic diver, was trapped underwater in the Black Sea when the brakes on the truck he was driving failed. Jason’s heavy-duty boots got trapped under the pedals as the vehicle and he disappeared underwater. He managed to free himself as the truck sunk to the bottom of the sea.

He’s not talking about the near-death incident as it is now the subject of a legal battle, but the real-life drama will be edited into “Expendables 3” for release next August, again with a premiere at Planet Hollywood. He also will be seen in the upcoming “Fast & Furious 7.”

“I just love working and doing all my own stunts,” he told me the last time we talked at Planet Hollywood.

Expect to see Holly Madison, Bally’s headliner Veronic DiCaire, “The Amazing Race” and Chippendales at the Rio stars Jaymes Vaughan and James Davis and the “Jubilee!” showgirls from Bally’s on the red carpet, as well.

“Homefront” hits theaters one week from today.
