The Winners Of The Annual Producers Guild Of America Awards

Tonight, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) revealed their choices for excellence in film and TV for 2013. It was a night where we were expecting to find out which film was the favorite for the Best Picture Oscar by seeing who received “The Darryl F.Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.” What we ended up with though was a truly historic evening.

In a result never before seen from the PGA, there was a tie in the top category between Gravity and 12 Years a Slave, both of which are the top two contenders for the Best Picture Oscar. What this means is that, for the first time, we will head into the Oscars not having a clear idea of which film is the favorite. Could it be Gravity with its ten nominations and great chances of winning most of them, or perhaps 12 Years a Slave with its nine nominations and multiple Best Picture awards from the critics? As I said before, the winner of the PGA’s top honor has more than a 70% chance of winning the Best Picture Oscar, so it looks like we’ve at least narrowed down the most likely winner to two.

One thing’s for sure, it will be an incredibly exciting Oscar night, so be sure to check back here for our live list of winners on March 2nd. Also be sure to join us on Saturday night for the Directors Guild of America Awards to see if Alfonso Cuaron takes home top honors, solidifying him as the leader for the Best Director Oscar.
