‘Arrow’ Season 2 Villain Roster to Include Clock King

Arrow isn’t a show that could ever be accused of ignoring its source material, as it often seems like each new episode brings with it another character from the Green Arrow comic books to either fight alongside Oliver Queen or, more commonly, work against him to corrupt Starling City. Vigilantism and villainy are abound, and the wave of bad guys doesn’t look like it will be letting up any time soon.

Amid the episodic guest star villains like the Count, Deadshot and the Dollmaker, the new season-spanning enemy of choice is Sebastian Blood, who has been cooking up a serum designed to give exceptional powers to ordinary thugs, and who possesses a massive amount of sway over the hearts and minds of Starling City’s downtrodden classes.

However, there’s always time for more bad guys (get it?), and TV Line is reporting that a casting notice for William Tockman AKA Clock King has been released, seeking an actor in his 40s or 50s for the part. This means that Clock King will show up during the latter half of season 2,after the show returns in January.

Compared to the likes of the Dark Archer, Solomon Grundy and Brother Blood, Clock King is, at the risk of being cruel, kind of lame. His only superpower is impeccable punctuality. His clock-covered outfit is dorky even by comic book villain standards. His nemesis is the common typo.

With that in mind, there’s definitely room for him in Starling City, which welcomes villains great and small. Arrow has yet to introduce any characters with true superpowers (though that will change as the Flash enters the picture), which at least puts Clock King on a fairly level playing field. Based on the casting call, it sounds like Clock King’s strategy will be a useful asset to his criminal status, as he apparently has “the mind of a chess grandmaster, and can envision all the interlocking pieces of Starling City and adjust them in favor of his crimes.”

Clock King could actually be a useful ally for the woefully unpunctual Oliver Queen, whose inability to show up to meetings on time (or at all) has become a source of great aggravation for his business partner, Isabel Rochev. Perhaps the vigilante should put some effort into recruiting him as a new PA?
