“Sex and the City” alum Jenny Bicks has signed on to adapt the French comedy “Hard” for HBO and Fox 21.

Stephen McPherson is shepherding the comedy with Bicks. He optioned the rights to the Canal Plus series from producer Gilles Galud.

Dark comedy revolves around a Brentwood housewife who inherits her husband’s failing porn company. She’s challenged to manage a business and her dueling lives, which she shares with her coffee-clatch friends.

Vin Di Bona, exec producer of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” suggested the property was ripe for U.S. adaptation after McPherson, the former ABC Entertainment chief, hung out his producing shingle last spring.

“Hard” is in the early stage of development at HBO. Bicks, McPherson and Di Bona’s Fishbowl Worldwide Media are exec producers. Fishbowl’s senior VP Shaleen Desai is handling the project for the company.

Bicks, who was a key scribe on “Sex and the City,” previously worked with McPherson during his tenure at ABC when she spearheaded the Anne Hcche dramedy “Men in Trees.” That show had a two-season run from 2006-08. Bicks fell for the “Hard” concept when McPherson pitched it to her over breakfast at Soho House.

Most recently, Bicks was showrunner of Showtime’s “The Big C.” At present, she’s also writing a pilot for NBC and is exec producing with scribes Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux a comedy pilot, “Works With Jerks,” for ABC.

The original “Hard” (pictured) starred Natacha Lindinger in the lead role. The series made a splash when it bowed in 2008; a follow-up season ran in 2011. McPherson had no trouble checking out the original segs. He spent his spent his elementary and high school years in France.
