Summit Bancorp was a Princeton, New Jersey based bank, but also had offices in Summit, New Jersey.

The Summit company slowly began expanding in the 1990s, acquiring many regional banks in northern and central and New Jersey. Then, in 1996, the Summit was bought out by Hackensack-based rival United Jersey Bank, which assumed the Summit name. UJB's predecessors included Third National Bank in Central and South Jersey, and Valley Bank and Trevose Federal in Pennsylvania.

Summit ceased to exist in the early 2000s. Some of its branches were sold to Commerce Bank, while the company itself was bought by FleetBoston in 2000 and assumed the company's name after a transition period. The branches now either operate as TD Bank or Bank of America, which bought Fleet in 2005.

Our History
The foundation of what is now Summit Bank began in Magnolia in late 1996. It was in Magnolia where the original bank charter for Horizon Bank of Columbia County was granted. In February of 2000, Horizon Bank of Columbia County changed its name to Summit Bank. A dedicated group of community bankers wanted to create a bank committed to helping their customers reach the pinnacle of success. The philosophy was simply that people work hard for their money and we should work just as hard to protect it and make it grow.

What has happened since that time is nothing short of remarkable. Summit Bank has grown to over one billion in assets and into a 20-branch banking network serving all the financial needs of Central and South Arkansas. Our success has been the result of a unique strategy that combines a focus on customer service and conservative principles with a deep commitment to remaining a community bank at any size.
