The company or entity in which an investment has been made, in which the investor reports a share of the investee's net income. In minority, active investments, an investor acquires common shares of an investee with the intent of exerting significant influence over the investee's activities. In the Investors use of the term, the opposite of an investor.

The word investment originates in the Latin "vestis," meaning garment, or vest, and refers to the act of putting assets into others pockets. A person puts money in-vest, so as to receive profits in there own pockets. Investee is the person who receives the funds.
