Instructions
Download the instruction packets for all forms involved in the K-1 visa process (see Resources). Even if you have the I-129F Petition for Alien Fiance(e), it is wise to download the instruction manual along with the application form to check the exact guidelines on the application form. Take your time.

Do the same with all USCIS and Department of State application forms included in the process. The application instruction packets can be downloaded from the same location as the application forms, at the websites of the USCIS and USDS.

Pay the proper application fees. Failure to pay the exact amount will automatically put a hold on your application. All fees must be paid in full, in either a check drawn on a U.S. bank account or a money order, paid directly to the Department of Homeland Security (for USCIS forms) or to the Department of State (for USDS forms). Payment must accompany the application.

Make document checklists. Use the information in the application instruction packets as well as from the USCIS and USDS websites to create a document and form checklist. The K-1 visa application process requires myriad documents and forms to be submitted at various times. Creating a checklist will ensure that you have everything you need ahead of time.

Double- and triple-check all application packets. Go over every document and application form two or even three times to make sure no errors are present.

Gather more documents than are needed. After the I-129F petition is approved, visa applicants must attend an interview with an U.S. consular agent at their nearest U.S. Consulate General. At the interview, the applicant must prove to the officer the validity of the relationship with his or her U.S. fiance(e).

To do so, the applicant must present evidence of a bona fide relationship, such as photographs, letters, phone records, plane tickets, emails, instant message records, birthday cards or even a timeline of the progression of the relationship. Take as much evidence as you can think of to your interview. Proving your relationship at the initial interview will eliminate the need for follow-up interviews.

Be completely honest. Never lie about anything on the application forms or during the interview. If the officer even suspects that you are lying, additional interviews and investigations will be conducted. To ensure a one-time interview and a smooth filing, answer truthfully and without hesitation.
