Established in 1979, the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center is one of just 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States, and the only one in the San Diego region. Such centers are prominent among the leading institutions in the nation dedicated to scientific innovation and clinical excellence. This designation — reserved for centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education and community contributions — makes an enormous difference to our patients. Studies show that outcomes are better at NCI-designated centers.
In 2013, UC San Diego was named one of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs" by Becker's Hospital Review. Our cancer services were also ranked among the top 50 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 2011-2012 "Best Hospitals" survey, which also recognized the UC San Diego Health System as the top adult hospital in San Diego.
