Trumbull Memorial Hospital set the pace for other hospitals in the community by offering the first open heart program in the county in August 2002.
Providing advanced, innovative and comprehensive cardiovascular care to area heart patients is ValleyCare Heart and Vascular at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. ValleyCare Heart and Vascular provides a standard and continuum of care based on the best practices and high-quality initiatives found at world-class centers around the country.
The Hospital leads the way in detection, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and boasts a team of cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, specially-trained cardiac nurses and cardiac rehabilitation specialists. The department features 14 short-stay beds and three state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories equipped with leading edge technology.
Using a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment, patients receive personal attention, effective treatment and a high level of care in a patient-centered environment.
ValleyCare Heart and Vascular is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Thoracic Surgeon. ValleyCare Heart and Vascular is also a Certified Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Joint Commission.

Meet our Team:
Thomas A. D’Amato, M.D., PHD, FACS
Along with treating patients with cardiac disease, board-certified Dr. D’Amato is trained in minimally-invasive thoracic surgery from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and uses his expertise in thoracic oncology to help patients with lung cancer. He also continues to conduct clinical trials and remains involved in medical education and research.
Alejandro A. Franco, M.D.
Dr. Franco has provided quality cardiac care to the residents of the Mahoning Valley for more than 30 years. He did his fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and as a leading heart surgeon for Mahoning Valley, has performed more than 6,000 open heart surgeries in his career. His focus is on repairing and reconstructing damaged coronary arteries and valves and correcting atrial fibrillation.
Eugene V. Vitvitsky, M.D.
With Fellowship training from the University of Tennessee and additional training from The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, board-certified Dr. Vivitsky has a broad experience in cardiac surgery including reconstructive valvular surgery, off-pump coronary bypass surgery, minimally invasive valvular surgery, endovascular surgery and aneurysm repair.
Michael S. Cicchillo, M.D.
Board-certified Dr. Cicchillo did his fellowship at Greenville Hospital System – University Medical System. He is a vascular surgeon with advanced training and specializes in endovascular and open surgical treatment. Dr. Cicchillo also provides minimally invasive treatment for a wide range of venus disorders including medical treatment for arterial and venus diseases.
Catheterization Labs
Providing a full complement of services, our Catheterization Lab is the only lab in Trumbull County providing coronary intervention and high risk open heart surgery. The team of skilled medical professionals provide advanced care in a patient-centered environment. Services include:
