The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is one of the region's major academic health centers, located in Little Rock, Arkansas, with outreach programs operating in every county and a regional campus in Northwest Arkansas. In addition to our hospital and clinics, UAMS includes five colleges and a graduate school, eight Area Health Education Centers, and seven institutes of excellence.

In 2009, UAMS Medical Center completed a 540,000 square-foot expansion, which gives our teaching hospital a total of 434 beds — including 330 adult beds, 30 adult psychiatric beds, 10 pediatric psychiatric beds and 64 bassinets. We have a new emergency department, clinical lab and radiology department along with room to expand other services. Adjacent to the hospital is our Psychiatric Research Institute.

Among its assets for leadership are its status as the only academic health center in the state, its statewide network of centers for public education and clinical outreach, its emphasis on population health, and its leadership in health informatics and statewide information technology. In addition, UAMS has a unique capacity for translational research – speeding the rate at which research can inform clinical care and health improvement.
