　　原名Darrell Lance Abbott，也名"Diamond Darrell"和 "Dimebag Darrell"（生于1966年8月20日-死于2004年12月8日）美国著名吉他手，曾是著名能量金属乐队Pantera和Damege plan的主音吉他和灵魂人物以及发起人之一。他还参与了southern metal乐队Rbele Meets Reble

　　Abbott经常出现在吉他杂志以及读者的投票中,而且还在有吉他世界杂志写有长篇专栏，收录在书籍Riffer Madness中。他的音色获得广泛赞誉，并被吉他乐手杂志评为最伟大的50之一。被人们铭记的是他和善的天性以及和所有歌迷打成一片。 Abbott被Allmusic评价为"最有影响力的现代金属风格大师"之一。不幸的是在2004年的12月8日，他在美国俄亥俄州的哥伦布市Alrosa Villa 俱乐部作为Damage plan乐队主音的演出中被枪杀身亡。

　　Abbott的父母叫做Carolyn和Jerry Abbott,一个乡村音乐家和一个制作人。12岁的时候和吉他结缘，他的第一把吉他是Hondo Les Paul ，他得到了一把不大的电吉他，而且在达拉斯的Agora Ballroom举办的一系列地区吉他比赛中取胜，并在那里得到了一把Dean ML作为奖赏。他的父亲在比赛的前一天的早晨就已经给他买了一把爆裂樱红色的Dean ML，所以他没有多长时间弹这把琴就要参加比赛。最后，根据吉他世界杂志对一些家庭成员和朋友的采访，Abbott被禁止参加比赛，因为他没给其他参赛者任何赢的机会。在这些曾经比赛的奖品中就包括他的第一台Randall Amplifier，从此和这个牌子结下了缘。

　　Abbott和他的鼓手兄弟vinniepaul在1981组建了pantera乐队，他们像slayer,megadeth和meatllica以及一些传统金属乐队black sabbath,ironmaiden,motorhead,venom,judas priest一样的动作演出。

　　直到9年后商业上相当成功的专辑<cowboys from hell>发行，pantera乐队逐渐看到自己已经形成了groove metal，新的表现形式post-trash（新激流金属/后激流金属）的标尺！pantera的"groove"风格在92年2月25日发行的专辑<vulgar display of power>开花结果。在这张专辑里没有男士假声的高音，取而代之的是硬核式的厚重吼叫以及更加重的吉他RIFF。

　　1994年，Abbott抛弃了绰号"Diamond Darrell"然后用上了大家熟知的"Dimebag Darrell." 90年代中期pantera乐队在成员们不断升级的紧张局面上痛苦的挣扎，主要源于主唱philanselmo的drug成瘾。2003年，这种裂缝逐渐扩大但是还没有正式的分崩。anselmo忙于其他事宜远离了pantera，组建了superjointritaul和down乐队，贝斯手rex brown也跟随去。一年后，Abbott兄弟两个也组建了新乐队damageplan，在damegeplan他们依然沿袭了pantera式的"groove"风格，兄弟俩找来了前HALFORD的吉他手pat lachman来当主唱，bob zilla作为贝斯手也加入了damageplan.

　　2004年的2月10日他们发行了乐队的首张专辑<new found power>,首次进榜就在billboard 200 取得了38位的成绩，第一周就卖出了44,676张。当给新乐队写歌的时候dimebag说"我们要把我们的能力拓展到极限"

　　2004年12月8日晚，Pantera乐队的前吉他手Dimebag Darrell在演出中被乐迷枪杀在舞台上。

　　悲剧发生在美国俄亥俄州哥伦布市的Alrossa Villa俱乐部，当晚Dimebag Darrell率领他的新乐队Damageplan在这里演出。演出刚开始十分钟，一名叫Sean的男子冲上舞台，向乐队成员射击。之后，枪手又朝台下观众开枪。在混乱中警察将此人击毙。据报道，除Dimebag Darrell外，还有另外一名乐队成员当场死亡。观众也至少有两人被杀。

　　据说凶手也是一位前PANTERA的乐迷，但他的杀人动机不得而知。二十四年前，伟大的摇滚音乐人John Lennon被自己的乐迷射杀在公寓门口，时间同样是12月8日。
