An Indian-origin doctor has implanted the first miniature-sized, leadless cardiac pacemaker in the US directly inside a patient’s heart without surgery.

Evie Elsaesser was only supposed to survive a few minutes after her birth, but, more than four years later, she’s still here, thanks to an experimental therapy that saved her life.

Scientists hope this simple test may lead to early diagnosis of the deadly disease that takes the lives of 158,000 Americans a year.
