    Caiphas: Silence! You're all under this man's spell. Either offer proof of his wrongdoing or be quiet!

    《耶稣受难记》电影再度激起天主教徒与犹太教徒之间的论战，甚至它被指责是反犹太主义的。但是，由詹姆斯•卡维泽主演的这部影片却吸引了数百万观众，票房连创佳绩 。据说，为了不重蹈马丁•斯科西斯的覆辙，梅尔•吉布森先让宗教界的权威人士看了本片，确定其没有违反教义且忠实于圣经之后，才公开上映。

    吉布森在影片中对耶稣被出卖和遭受磨难的血腥描述激起了好莱坞史无前例的文化战争，尽管遭到了宗教人士的一致反对，当然也正是由于他们的反对，2004年的这部影片在全美的票房总收入超过了3.7亿美元。紧随其后的是斯坦利•库布里克的《发条橙》，1971年的这部未来派影片最让人难忘的是影片充斥着大量暴力场面，最著名的一个暴力镜头的背景音乐竟然是《雨中曲》，有报道说，很多青少年模仿影片中的犯罪行为。正是这则报道直接导致库布里克的这部影片被取消了在英国的发行。

    奥利弗•斯通的两部影片榜上有名，他也是唯一有两部影片上榜的导演，两部影片为《刺杀肯尼迪》和《天生杀人狂》，前者排为第5名，后者排为第8名。目前正在上映的《达芬奇密码》因述说天主教隐藏的一个秘密而受到争议，位居第13名，最近一部反映“9•11”恐怖袭击事件的影片《93号航班》被评为16名，另外，《华氏911》、《深喉》、《基督最后的诱惑》、《本能》、《猎鹿人》、《为所欲为》和《孩子》也被列入25部争议影片之中。

    电影票房

    梅尔•吉布森的举世瞩目之作《耶稣受难记》自上映以来，在全球大受欢迎。到目前为止，票房累积收入已高达4亿多美元，并在复活节期间重返卖座榜首位，创下了北美影市的奇迹，而在美国本土则跻身影史上最卖座电影的第8位，很有可能取代《蜘蛛侠》成为影史上排行第5的最赚钱影片。有业内人士说：“《耶稣受难记》重写了票房史。”因为梅尔•吉布森只为该片投资2500万美元。
