A "Walking Dead" fan may have taken his love for the show a little too far by threatening to turn his neighbors' dogs into zombies and then shooting them while dressed as a character from the TV show.

The 47-year-old Mount Pleasant man has not yet been charged, but police are investigating his involvement in the shooting of a neighbor's dog near Dragoon Drive, according to a police report.

Officers met with the owner of the wounded animal Saturday, who reported that his dog, a Vizsla named Skye, was shot around 8 a.m. Thursday with what appeared to be a BB gun or a pellet gun in the rib cage.

The dog's owner told officers that he was contacted by his son, who said the family pet was "bleeding and not doing well," according to the report. They took Skye to the veterinarian clinic, where X-rays showed the dog had been shot with a pointed pellet. The veterinarian said the dog's injury would likely heal on its own, according to the police report.

After the shooting, the dog's owner was informed by a neighbor of an email from the suspect, who described shooting three dogs that wandered onto his property - one of which he claimed to have fed chocolate.

In the email, the suspect claimed to be a "huge 'Walking Dead' fan," making shooting the dogs more exciting because "after consuming a belly full of Hershey's," they would "easily resemble a zombie." He allegedly signed the email "Rick," a character from the popular AMC show, the report stated. He also claimed to have dressed up as the character.

The dog's owner confronted the suspect and he denied shooting Skye, but later admitted to police that he sent the email, according to the report. He also told police that he did have a pellet gun and showed them a black gun resembling an assault rifle, with .177 caliber BB or pellet engraved on the side, the report stated.

The suspect denied to police shooting any dogs or feeding them chocolate. Officers are following up with potential witnesses in the case.

Skye's owner told police that he believes the man is a threat to the community.
