Rugged vehicles are used to shuttle soldiers around dangerous war zones.

U.S. Marines rely on the BAE Caiman armored vehicle to safely shuttle them around dangerous areas of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Medium Tactical Vehicle
The BAE Caiman has been designed based on medium tactical vehicles that feature composite armor and have the ability to travel over extremely rugged terrain. The Caiman can carry a total of 10 fully equipped soldiers, has full-time all wheel drive, an automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes and can accommodate a variety of manned and remote weapon stations.

The BAE Caiman is also mine resistant and has blast protected seat cushions. This is helpful when the vehicle is traveling in dangerous areas that are rife with land mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In September 2010, the BAE Caimans began to undergo a $600 million upgrade program where they will be outfitted with enhanced flooring, a strengthened chassis frame, and improved blast absorbing seats. These enhancements and improvements will make the Caiman’s even more durable and increase the vehicle’s survivability rate in combat.
