The tarnished gold standard of on-again-off-again relationships, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton fell in love 50 years ago during the filming of Cleopatra. They ended their respective marriages, wed, and after a decade together, the couple divorced. "You can't keep clapping a couple of sticks [of dynamite] together without expecting them to blow up," Burton admitted. But the next year, there were new sparks—and Burton and Taylor remarried. A year later they divorced again, but in 1983, reunited in an acclaimed Broadway revival of Noel Coward's "Private Lives" in which they cheekily played a divorced couple.
