The ‘Dope’ singer has questioned whether critics are being too sensitive

The ‘Applause’ singer recently touched down in Japan’s Narita International Airport, making her way through the airport sporting a typically Gaga ensemble, complete with gigantic platform boots.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has travelled to the country just a day after speaking out about Katy’s Japan-inspired AMAs show. Despite Gaga’s own controversial performance – the star took the stage dressed as Marilyn Monroe while R. Kelly took on the role of John F. Kennedy – Katy’s star turn has been the huge talking point on Sunday night’s show.

The ‘Born This Way’ star has rushed to Katy’s defence, exploring possible reasons behind the ‘Teenage Dream’ singer’s staging concept. “Maybe it’s because ‘Unconditionally’ means you’re supposed to love no matter what and geishas are paid?” she told Carson Daly on US radio station AMP.

Gaga herself is no stranger to controversy and has previously taken to the stage in a dress made from raw meat, performed in a mock confessional box and staged her own death during a set at the VMAs.
”I think people are generally too sensitive and they should just leave her be,” she added. “But you know, I’m not really the person to ask.”

Katy wore heavy porcelain make-up and a kimono for her performance at the AMAs leading some viewers to take to Twitter, labeling the 29-year-old as “racist”. While Katy has remained silent on the issue, her stylist Johnny Wujek has defended the costume, telling E! News that “Katy and I both love Japan.”

“We wanted to try and encompass that in the performance somehow, almost a tribute,” he added.

Putting style before comfort, Gaga accessorised her military-inspired jumpsuit with a pair of gigantic patent leather black heels and some interesting eyewear. The 'Do What U Want' singer kept her Marilyn Monroe-esque hair-do and was pretty excited about her trip to Asia, tweeting: “Getting ready to leave for Tokyo! I can't hardly wait! *packing extra rhinestones* for Japanese little monsters here I come! Xx,” before boarding her flight.

During her interview with Carson Daly, Gaga also teased fans with some snippets of information about her as-yet-unannounced ‘ARTPOP’ tour. “I can’t wait to bring my tour back to America. We’re going to be announcing it very soon,” she revealed. “I’m going on tour next year and we’re announcing something in December.”

Lady Gaga's promo trip to Japan is likely to be a success as the 'ARTPOP' album is already nubmer one in the country's music charts.

The star has had a busy few weeks, travelling to the UK before performing at the American Music Awards with R. Kelly at the weekend.

The 'Telephone' creator recently announced plans to be the first recording artist to perform in Outer Space. The singer will board a Virgin Galactic flight two months after Richard Branson's company start operating commercial trips in 2015, to perform at the 'Zero G Colony' festival. 'ARTPOP' debuted at number one in the UK Album Chart, but has since dropped to ninth place.
