When the Once Upon a Time co-creators first announced their plans for a Wonderland-themed spin-off series, we were skeptical.

However, then we saw the preview for Wonderland, and now we’re ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole. But will OUAT fans want to explore the magical world of Wonderland, too?

Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis dished a few details about the spin-off series at the 2013 ATX Television Festival on Saturday (June 8). Here’s what the dynamic duo had to say about the series, which premieres this fall on ABC, and whether or not we’ll be seeing a few familiar faces in the whimsical world of Wonderland.

Will we see Cora again?
“I think there are still more Cora stories to be told, and I definitely think we’ll see more of her, at least in flashbacks,” Eddy said.

Although the likelihood of seeing her pop up in OUAT is slim (at least in the present day), Adam added that, in Wonderland, “there are plenty of opportunities to see the Queen of Hearts.”

Why Wonderland?
According to Adam, he and the writers got really excited about possibilities after exploring Wonderland in Season 1 with the Mad Hatter (Sebastian Stan). He and Eddy both felt it was a world they couldn’t be crammed into one or two episodes.

“If you’ve never seen Once, it’s its own world with its own characters,” Adam said. As for what the series is all about, well, in keeping with the familiar theme of True Love, Adam and Eddy said they wanted to do a very limited story about Alice’s search to find her lost love.

“[Wonderland] is going to be very limited with a beginning, middle, and end,” Adam said.

Will Sebastian Stan return and reprise his role as the Mad Hatter?
“It stands as it always does, loving him and wanting him to be on every episode, but him being incredibly busy around the world,” Eddy said.

Adam added, “There’s always an open invitation for him, and we’d love to work him in.” But don’t worry about recasting, OUAT fans.

Adam and Eddy said they would never recast the role; Sebastian is the Mad Hatter. Eddy:
And while they both would like him to guest star in an episode or two, Adam said, “his schedule so busy, so we’re not sure if it will happen this year.”
