A former elementary teacher has been sentenced to 29 months in prison for having sex with a boy and drugging him over a two-year period, starting when he was 13.

Christine McCallum, 29, from Abingdon, Virginia, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Brockton Superior Court to 12 counts of child rape, one count of drugging a person for sex and one count of providing alcohol to a minor.

She also received 10 years of probation.

Prosecutors said McCallum was tutoring the boy's brother when the abuse began, and it continued for nearly two years.

She was arrested in 2009 after the boy's father discovered the relationship.

The boy wept as he gave a victim impact statement in court, saying McCallum destroyed his life. He also said she drove a wedge between him and his family.

He earlier told police the couple had sex up to 300 times during a 21-month period.
