In the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, in 1998, Hustler publisher Larry Flynt offered $1 million to anyone able to prove any sexual misconduct on the part of a prominent Republican.

The idea was that if the GOP could target Bill Clinton for cheating on his wife, then Flynt was going to hold them to the same standard. As it happened, Flynt caught two fish with his offer,Bob Barr and Bob Livingston, both Republican congressmen at the time.

Bob Barr
Bob Barr's ex-wife, Gail, came foward and revealed that in 1983 Barr acquiesced to her getting an abortion. The revelation was an embarrassment for Barr, who had been a vocal abortion opponent.

Flynt also revealed that Barr, who played a key part in the Clinton investigations, had likely been cheating on his second wife before leaving her for his third wife. Flynt's private investigators revealed that Barr had invoked a legal privelege during divorce proceedings with his second wife by refusing to answer questions about whether he had cheated on her. The former Republican served in congress until 2003, at which point he switched to the Libertarian party. According to his Web site, Barr now advocates for a state's right to make its own abortion laws.

Bob Livingston
When Larry Flynt claimed to have proof that Bob Livingston (R-LA) had carried on an extramarital affair, not only did Livingston not dispute the charges, he stepped down from his position as House Majority Speaker-elect and announced that his resignation would take effect the following May.

The announcement came before Flynt had a chance to publish anything at all. FromLivingston's statement :

I have decided to inform my colleagues and my constituents that during my 33 year marriage to my wife, Bonnie, I have on occasion strayed from my marriage and doing so nearly cost me my marriage and my family. I sought marriage andspiritual counselling, and have received forgiveness from my wife and family, for which I am eternally grateful.
Livingston made the argument that Clinton's transgressions were far worse because they involved a case of perjury, so the president should follow his example and step down from office.
