When Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) met the New York Giants in the White House April 30, 2008, he was understandably psyched to meet the Superbowl champions and hometown heroes.

Laura Fay with her daughter, fathered by Vito Fossella, on the New York Post.

He was so psyched, he kept the party going into the evening. And by 10 p.m. he was so drunk he got thrown out of Logan Tavern in Washington, DC. Shortly after that, Fossella ran a red light, was stopped by police, and thrown in jail with a DWI.

Now that all looks pretty bad for a congressman, but it gets worse.

In Fossella's drunken stupor, it probably seemed perfectly fine to call his girlfriend to come bail him out of jail. And it would be fine, except that if Fossella were sober, he'd know that it would probably peeve his wife.

The day after being bailed out of jail by his girlfriend, Fossella held a press conference. His wife was there, but she did not stand next to him when he told those assembled that he had been carrying on a relationship with retired Air Force Lt. Col. Laura Fay. And that he and Fay had a 3-year-old daughter.

Fossella carried out the remainder of his term, but decided not to run for reelection. He left the Senate Jan. 3, 2009.
