The Sex and the City star and Christine Marinoni, her girlfriend since 2004, tied the knot on Sunday in New York. Few details about the nuptials have been revealed except that Nixon wore a custom dress by Carolina Herrera.

Nixon met Marinoni after she had ended a 15-year relationship with photographer Danny Mozes, the father of her two oldest children. Marinoni gave birth to a son in February 2011.

'I'd been with men all my life, and I'd never fallen in love with a woman,' Nixon said in 2007. 'But when I did, it didn't seem so strange. I'm just a woman in love with another woman.'

The couple announced their engagement in 2009 and had been at the forefront of the fight for marriage equality in the state of New York. Marriage became legal in the state last year.

Nixon caused a controversy earlier this year when instead of saying she is bisexual, she said that for her, being gay was a choice. She later clarified in a statement to The Advocate. 'I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship.'

Nixon is nominated for a Tony Award for lead actress in a play for her performance in Wit. The awards will be announced on June 10. She is already a past Tony winner for the play Rabbit Hole, a two-time Emmy winner and also the winner of a Grammy Award.
