Peter Som teams up with Sferra for a new housewares line.

Fashion favorite Peter Som and luxury linen company Sferra have gotten in bed together, announcing a new tandem line of bed, table and bath linens.

The collaboration was sparked by Som's outstanding spring/summer 2010 collection. Sferra's chiefs were looking for an exciting new fashion designer with whom to partner, someone unexpected. After seeing Som's runway show, they were hooked.

The initial home collection is inspired by that very clothing line. Aaron Stewart, Sferra's creative director, told StyleList, "the collection came completely from his ready-to-wear print designs. But we colored the prints to make them more appealing for a bedroom -- people want different things for a bedroom than for a party dress!"

Som leapt into action, presenting concepts to Sferra in a matter of weeks. "I'm thrilled to combine Sferra's tradition of perfectly crafted and luxurious bed linens and tabletop with my love of prints and color," he explained to StyleList. "I've designed my dream bedding collection -- I promise only sweet dreams to those who sleep in it!"

The collection will include at least three bedding sets, including decorative pillows and throws, plus bath and table linens. The bedding will come in grays, lilacs and a multicolored floral printwith green, pink and yellow.

Stewart also teased, "There's a signature sheet that will come in three colorways with something written in script, but I don't want to give it away just yet!"

In good Sferra tradition, most items are made in high-thread-count Egyptian cotton. They're also working on knitted throws based on sweaters from Som's collection. The prints are being made in Italy and have impressed even the seen-it-all team there. Stewart recalled, "at the printer's, the design director was flipping out as we developed the colors."
