DC Shoes is an American company that specializes in footwear for action sports, including skateboarding andsnowboarding. The company also manufactures apparel, bags, accessories, and posters.
The company was founded in 1993 by Ken Block and Damon Way, and is based in Huntington Beach, California, United States (US).DC originally stood for "Droors Clothing", but since the sale of Droors Clothing (which is now defunct), DC no longer has ties to Droors and is simply DC Shoes. On March 8, 2004, DC Shoes was acquired by Quiksilver in an US$87 Million transaction. In 2010, DC Shoes moved from Vista, California, to Quiksilver's headquarters in Huntington Beach. In 2011, the brand underwent a rejuvenation process, including the design of a new flag logo.As part of this process, new team announcements were progressively made and a series of advertisements, under the direction of new team member Steve Berra were released online.
A further progression of the brand relaunch is the "Rediscover" campaign that commenced in December 2011, following the addition of Mike Mo Capaldi and Nyjah Huston to the sponsored team. The campaign is entitled "Rediscover DC" and the launch signified the first time that the entire DC team had been brought together in nearly a decade.
Similar to other larger brands, such as Nike, Inc. and adidas, DC sponsors international teams in addition to its global team. In 2012, Brian Peacock was recruited to the DC Shoes China team,Manolo Robles was recruited to the DC Shoes Spain team,and, as of October 2012, Morgan Smith, Josh Clark, Will Marshall, Mitch Barrette, and Chad Dickson are sponsored by DC Shoes Canada.DC Shoes Norway has been formed and is part of the Cyclone Distribution company—Madars Apse and Tormod Tønnesen are members of the Norwegian skate team.The DC Australia skate team consists of Marty Girotto, Kieran Reilly, Jake Hayes, Bugs Fardell, Joel McIlroy, Yuta Tanaka, Casey Ainsworth, Anthony Bull, Tommy Fynn, and Deon Williams. Fynn was the first member of DC's Asia Pacific (DC APAC) skate team. As of August 2012, the DC company is present in the women's market and the "Women's Fall 12 Collection" consists of footwear, apparel, accessories, soft goods, and accessories.
