The History of MHM

Competence. Integrity. Respect.

In 1954, Ernest D. Mayer opened a small, single location accounting practice in Kansas City, Mo., under the name of Ernest D. Mayer, CPA. In 1960, Ernie Mayer and Bill Hoffman agreed to merge their practices as they had similar ideas and goals. The firm then became known as Mayer White and Hoffman. The name was officially changed to Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C (MHM) in 1978 with the addition of Chuck McCann as managing partner.
The founders were dedicated to providing every client with exceptional and timely services. This commitment to quality allowed for steady growth, and, in 1998, MHM spun-off its tax and consulting practice, which was merged into Century Business Services, Inc (CBIZ). Since then, MHM has been able to focus strictly on attest services and has flourished into a national, independent CPA firm, leaving a footprint in major metropolitan markets across the country. By continuing to add dedicated CPAs from firms who previously merged, or sold, their tax and consulting practices to CBIZ, Inc., as well as other external acquisitions of quality attest practices, MHM, together with CBIZ, has grown to become one of the top ten accounting providers in the nation.
Today, MHM spans from coast to coast and is a nationally recognized alternative to the Big Four. Their professionals, guided by the deep values instilled in the company many years ago, continue to provide clients with the knowledge, expertise and personal attention they deserve. Built on a foundation of strong principles, MHM continues to provide the strong, credible and reliable services they have offered their clients since 1954.
