John W. Ziegler is a Principal of Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P. Mr. Ziegler joined Sandler O’Neill in April 2005, and advises a broad range of financial institutions on strategic matters, focusing on mergers and acquisitions as well as raising capital.
Since joining Sandler O'Neill, Mr. Ziegler has been involved in a number of transactions for financial institutions, including working with: Chrysler Financial on its sale to TD Bank Group; Comerica Incorporated on its acquisition of Sterling Bancshares; the merger and $310 million recapitalization of FNB United and Bank of Granite sponsored by The Carlyle Group and Oak Hill Capital; SunTrust Banks on its recent common stock offerings; Compass Bancshares on its sale to BBVA; Mercantile Bankshares on its sale to PNC Financial and North Fork Bank on its sale to Capital One Financial. In addition, Mr. Ziegler helped establish Sandler O'Neill’s work in the asset management and financial processing sectors.
Previously, Mr. Ziegler was a Managing Director in the Financial Institutions Group at Goldman Sachs, where he worked in investment banking for over 10 years, most recently advising a broad range of financial services clients involved in retail and commercial banking, asset management, finance and processing. Mr. Ziegler joined Goldman Sachs in the early 1990s, after starting his career at First Boston.
Mr. Ziegler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business from the University of California, Los Angeles.
