The true reason might be far more interesting, apparently Katie Holmes walked in on Tom Cruise and David Beckham who were not exactly playing football. This alleged affair was, according to sources close to the couple, what really ended the marriage for “Catholic girl” Katie Holmes.

Tom and David have enjoyed a very public bromance since meeting in 2003. Their friendship is detailed in the 2009 Beckham biography “The Beckham Experiment,” by Sports Illustrated writer Grant Wahl which goes into detail about the relationship between Becks and Cruise.

The bromance began when they met in 2003, and it was the start of a beautiful friendship, as David and Victoria Beckham have the same rep as Cruise, hired his PR firm, and moved just five minutes from the Cruise’s house in Beverly Hills.

Beckham also reportedly talks to Cruise frequently and gets his advice on almost everything, with Cruise said to have influenced Becks’ decision to join the LA Galaxy.

Beckhams’ third son is named Cruz, by no accident, it seems, with Beckham telling the book’s author, “I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different.’”

The pair have often been photographed together without their wives, and over the years, Tom has vocalized his affection for Beckham on numerous occasions. He has even expressed a desire to work with him on a film.

“I’d love to do action movies with Beckham. He would be great, he could kick ass,” he told The Mirror while promoting “Mission Impossible 4.” “David would have to teach me to play soccer first.”

Beckham has likewise flattered Cruise, referring to him as “one of the most handsome men I’ve ever met” in an interview with George Lopez.
