Early 2010: Halle Berry and French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry split after nearly five years together. The couple — who never married — has a temporary custody agreement to share daughter Nahla, born in March 2008.
In one of their last sightings as a couple, Halle and Gabriel manage to make San Francisco just a little more beautiful by bringing their gorgeous selves and darling daughter Nahla to the Bay Area this past February.
Early 2012: Halle Berry gets engaged to Olivier Martinez. The Oscar-winning actress has been married twice before — to former baseball player David Justice in the early 1990s, and to singer Eric Benét in the early 2000s.
January 2012: Gabriel Aubry is investigated for criminal child endangerment and battery allegations, after the Nahla’s nanny claimed he pushed her into a door while she held his daughter in her arms. But the case was dropped upon the recommendation of the Los Angeles County Department of Family and Children Services, which found no evidence Nahla was in danger.
February 2012: Halle Berry asks a judge for permission to move to Paris, France, with daughter Nahla to live with fiancé Olivier Martinez. The Thanksgiving throw-down — apparently motivated by the ongoing custody battle — lands both men in the hospital: Aubry is treated for a broken rib and facial injuries, and Martinez for neck and hand injuries. After being discharged, Aubry is booked for investigation.

It comes just days after a judge issued an emergency order of protection for Halle Berry — requiring Aubry to stay 100 yards away from Berry, Nahla and Martinez. The actress may seek more permanent protection from her ex as the emergency order expires on Nov. 29.

December 13, 2012: Gabriel Aubry is due to appear in court to face the battery charge. If convicted of battery, Aubry faces up to six months in jail. Then just four days later, the model will seek to make permanent the temporary restraining order banning Olivier Martinez from harassing, intimidating or contacting him.
