In Hollywood, it’s rare that relationships last for more than a few months, let alone years — but John Travolta and Kelly Preston have defied the odds.
At an event for the Children Mending Hearts Foundation, Kelly tells Life & Style how they’ve kept their marriage alive for 21 years.
“You have to keep creating it!” she tells Life & Style. “It can be effortless, but you have to keep creating it as well.”
So what are their secrets? “Communication is huge! Keep checking in and keep growing and changing,” shares the actress. “Keep it romantic. Keep doing things just the two of you. Family also gives you such a great purpose. The kids make it fun. Playing and laughing is also big. Laughter helps solve a lot of things!”
Speaking of their brood, when asked about Father's Day plans, Kelly told the mag that it will be quite a day for her hubby.
“I made [John] something, but I can’t say what it is because he’ll find out,” she said. “And the kids have made him several things. We’ve been married for a long, long time, so it’s fun to make things.”
Kelly, 50, and John, 59,  met during the filming of their movie The Experts in 1987. They were married in 1991 and have a daughter, Ella, 13, and son Benjamin, 2. Their son Jett passed away from a seizure at the age of 16 in 2009.
"I've had enormous loss," Kelly’s said about Jett's death. "Nobody should have to lose a child. It's unfathomable. But I'm here to say that you can get through it. You can live again. You can want to live again."
