I literally had to lay her down on her bed until she fell asleep," recalled photographer Francesco Scavullo during a fashion shoot.
 
Ms. Carangi was a regular at Studio 54 and the Mudd Club. According to online reports, she started using cocaine in these clubs and shifted to heroine, eventually, contracting HIV through a shared needle.
