McLaren Greater Lansing transformed itself in the 1960s into mid-Michigan's heart hospital when the area's first open heart bypass surgery was performed. Today, the Chi Heart & Surgery Center continues McLaren Greater Lansing's legacy as the area's most trusted heart hospital.

McLaren Greater Lansing is among a small, elite group of hospitals in the nation to have catheterizations, angioplasties and stent placements), and electrophysiology procedures (insertion of pacemakers and defibrillators).

McLaren–Greater Lansing has been recognized as a Cardiac Center of Excellence by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan since 1996 for meeting and exceeding medicine’s highest standards and providing exceptional care. McLaren has held this distinction longer than any other hospital in mid-Michigan. 

McLaren Greater Lansing is also among just 26 hospitals nationwide to receive recognition by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) for achieving exemplary surgical patient care outcomes

Decentralized areas for special patient needs.
• On-site Cardiac Rehabilitation. Surgeons and cardiologists refer patients for Phase 2 cardiac therapy. Patients receive education on diet, weight loss, smoking cessation, and an exercise regimen tailored to their individual needs.
• Stroke Center. McLaren Greater Lansing is the second hospital in Michigan to receive Primary Stroke Certification from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), an independent nationally recognized accreditation authority.
• Heart Failure/Infusion Center. Heart failure patients receive comprehensive instruction, under physician supervision, on diet, medications, substantial or complete elimination of salt, monitored fluid intake, and exercise.
