MEADS scores successful dual-intercept of ballistic and cruise missiles.

The Medium Extended Air Defence System (MEADS) programme conducted its final design and development phase intercept on 6 November with a successful engagement of simultaneously launched theatre ballistic and cruise missile targets attacking from opposite directions.

The demonstration marked the first 360-degree dual intercept by a ground-mobile air and missile defence (AMD) system, Marty Coyne, Lockheed Martin AMD business development director, said during a briefing following the event.

"This marks the goal of the MEADS design and development contract signed in 2004 and honours the vision of the leaders from Italy, Germany, and the United States who saw the need for an improved air and missile defence for their forces and NATO," Coyne said.
