F-35 completes Block 2B weapon accuracy trials

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter passed its latest milestone with the final weapon delivery accuracy test for a Block 2B munition, it was announced on 11 December.

The 6 December drop, which took place at the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California, saw short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant aircraft BF-18 drop a GBU-32 1,000 lb Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) from one of its internal weapons bays. The bomb was released from an altitude of 25,000 ft to score a direct hit on a representative target of stacked ISO containers.
