Apple has received final approval for its “spaceship” HQ, as long as it agrees to increase the amount it pays in taxes to the City of Cupertino, California.

The new headquarters – informally known as the “spaceship campus” due to its oval shape – won a unanimous vote from Cupertino’s council, and will receive its full set of building permits today.

Following the vote which gives the 2.8 million square foot ring-shaped building the all clear, Cupertino Mayor Orrin Mahoney said: “We’re eager to see it happen. Go for it.”

Mayor Mahoney added: “This item was one of many negotiated between Apple and the city of Cupertino as part of the development agreement.

“The Apple 2 campus is expected to have long-term impacts on the city with respect to traffic and other issues and Apple agreed to a financial offset for some of those impacts.”
