DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Numerous students were forced to leave Duncanville High School early Wednesday after administrators cracked down on dress code violators.

The Duncanville Independent School District said about 170 students were found in violation of the school's dress code and sent home. An unknown number of students also received in-school suspension for their dress code violations.

“We want to teach them that they must meet the expectations not only here in school but outside of school as well," said Duncanville HS Principal Andre Smith.

Video from SKY 4 around 1 p.m. also showed a heavy police presence outside the school.

Many students and their parents called FOX 4 to complain about the enforcement during the critical end-of-the-year learning period.

They claimed the school was strict about the dress code at the beginning of the year, but got lax about things like missing belts or jackets with logos.

A FOX 4 source said just after the morning announcements on Wednesday all students were individually inspected and those in violation were sent to the cafeteria before being sent home.

"My son got sent home from Duncanville ISD for chin hair stubble. What does this have to do with his education?" Angela Salerno wrote on the FOX 4 Facebook page.

"Our school cares more about our dress code than our own education. There's literally no kids in my class right now," a student named Victoria wrote on Twitter.
