The Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech or GT, is one of the largest research schools in the country. Georgia Tech is comprised of six different schools offering a staggering variety of degrees. Schools include: College of Architecture, College of Computing, College of Engineering, The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, College of Management, and College of Sciences.
The Georgia Tech College of Architecture offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees in many fields including building construction, city and regional planning, and music technology. There is also a doctorate degree offered in philosophy with concentrations in design cognition, culture and behavior, and morphing and design. The College of Architecture enjoys many areas of research as well including the Advanced Wood Products Laboratory and a Construction Resource Center. 2009 marks the 100th year celebration of the School of Architecture.
The College of Computing offers many diverse degrees such as computer science and interactive computing.
The College of Engineering at Georgia Tech is renowned for its educational rigor. The college is broken down into nine different engineering schools that include aerospace and mechanical engineering among many others. The school also offers many research centers and institutions including the Center for Compound Semiconductors and the Fusion Research Center. The average SAT score for students entering the College of Engineering in 2008 was 1,371.
The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts offers undergraduate as well as graduate degrees in a host of fields including history, international affairs and public policy. The school is named after former Atlanta mayor and civil rights activist Ivan Allen. In his honor, each year the school offers the Ivan Allen Jr. Civic Responsibility Essay contests. A scholarship or cash award is provided to the high school senior who authors the winning essay. Research centers at the Georgia Tech College of Liberal Arts include the Wesley Center for New Media Research and The Technology Policy and Assessment Center.
The College of Management at GT is geared toward those students looking to be leaders in the business world. The school offers undergraduate MBA’s and executive programs in many related fields including: technology and management and the global MBA. The MBA program at the school has been named in the top 30 among public universities in the United States.
The College of Sciences offers a bevy of degrees including applied biology, chemistry and physics. The school is relatively new to the campus opening in 1990. State-of-the-art facilities and a small class ratio, 5:1, are attracting many students to the school. Research in the college has included the Center for Environmental Predictions and Decisions and the Fiji Island reef conservation project.

10,000 applications for undergraduate admissions come every year. The school accepts 2,600 students. GT focuses on four main areas when looking at applicants. First, GT recalculates students’ high school GPA using a standard 4.0 grading scale but only for core curriculum. Second, Georgia Tech considers standardized test scores. Both SAT and ACT scores are permitted with students taking the ACT asked to submit the writing assessment portion of the test. GT also looks at student’s leadership and activity record on the application that list any extra-curricular activities of the student. This section should be highlight significant contributions and activities. Lastly the student will be given two topics and is required to write about one. The essay is evaluated on content and writing skills.

Georgia Tech offers many types of financial aid including scholarships and loans. Financial advisors are available to assist students with the application process.

GT has over 300 student organizations to choose from including the debate team, The Society of Step and tons of Sororities and Fraternities.
Barnes and Noble booksellers have a store right on campus where students can get textbooks and more.
The Campus Recreation Center offers a host of activities for students to choose from. Opening in 2004, the center has a climbing wall, an Olympic size pool and a fitness center. There are also lounge rooms and the H20 café to re-energize.
Atlanta, Georgia is an international city that offers an abundance of activities within a minutes’ drive.
Athletics
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are members of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. Students may choose from 17 intercollegiate sports including: football, golf, and tennis.
There are also a host of Intramural sports with the Campus Recreation Center serving as its base. These sports include: Frisbee, bowling and billiards.
The Yellow Jackets’ official colors are yellow and black.
