History
St. James Episcopal Day School was founded as a kindergarten by Mrs. Doris deBessonet in 1948. The school was given official status by the St. James Episcopal Church Vestry in 1951 under the leadership of the Rector, Parson Phillip Werlein.

Today, St. James Episcopal Day School is a landmark in downtown Baton Rouge. St. James focuses on the whole child and blends the best of traditional education with 21st-century technology and methodology.

From pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, St. James Episcopal Day School offers a solid foundation to equip children for a lifetime of learning.  With challenging academics, traditional Christian values, a wide range of experiences to encourage exploration and discovery, and a warm, loving atmosphere, it is easy to see why so many Baton Rouge families have embraced the St. James tradition of loving and learning for over five decades.
