The school started in 2003 with the name of Oakcrest Academy, on leased property. A 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m2) facility was constructed in 2007 on 9 acres (36,000 m2) and school was renamed Cedar Hill Prep School, offering education from pre-school to grade 8. A middle school was established in 2010, offering additional courses in technology and engineering.
As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 105 students (in grades K-5, plus 75 in Pre-Kindergarten) and 13.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.0:1.
