The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) publishes the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) to test pharmacy technicians in order to assure that they possess the necessary knowledge and skills to assist pharmacists with their duties. A pharmacy technician often completes basic tasks concerning the preparing and dispensing of medicines, but they also may communicate with doctors’ offices, work with insurance companies, compound medications, and carry out many other tasks.

●After you pass the PTCE exam and receive your PTCE score, you become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), and you can use this designation following your name.

●After passing the exam, you will receive a certificate and wallet card.

●You must renew your certification every two years.

●Your certification is valid nationwide, although state regulations vary from state to state regarding the responsibilities granted to pharmacy technicians.

●This exam costs $129. The test can be taken at a variety of locations—Pearson professional centers, Dantes testing centers, or online.

This test is offered year-round on an “as needed” basis at these testing sites. The test consists of ninety multiple-choice questions and takes two hours to complete.
