SAT Test Prep - Overview

The SAT Reasoning Test, which was originally known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), is a standardized exam that many of the undergraduate college and university programs within the United States require their applicants to take. The SAT test is designed by the College Board and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in order to determine whether or not an individual has the basic knowledge necessary in order to succeed in a college program. In many cases, commercial SAT prep can be extremely expensive.
The SAT test is comprised of three primary sections: a critical reading section, a mathematics section, and a writing section. The critical reading section includes a series of multiple-choice questions that are related to reading comprehension and vocabulary. The mathematics section includes a series of multiple-choice questions and a group of fill-in or "grid-in" questions that are related to basic mathematical concepts. The writing section includes a series of multiple-choice questions related to grammar, sentence structure, and flow. The SAT test writing section also includes an essay question.
Even though the SAT test is one of the most commonly used exams for college admissions, not every undergraduate program requires it. Certain programs and universities may require other admission tests for acceptance into academic programs instead of, or in addition to, the SAT. The exact score that an individual must achieve on the SAT in order to gain entrance into a particular program varies from program to program and from college to college, and most universities and programs do not use the SAT as the only factor considered for admission. When deciding whether a particular student should be accepted into an undergraduate program or not, most universities and programs consider entrance essays, grade point averages (G.P.A.), and other related factors in addition to the individual's SAT scores. SAT preparation is always recommended if you are trying for scholarships or looking into competitive schools.
