Still waiting for that invitation to an overnight at the White House? Ah, well. In the meantime, check out these presidentially connected hotels, inns and B&Bs from our Bed Check archives.

1. Thayer Hotel
Thayer Hotel . The grand hotel on the edge of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point campus in upstate New York has hosted five presidents since opening in 1926, and the Eisenhower presidential suite boasts the very desk that the 34th commander in chief used whenever he stayed here. Built in the Gothic style, the hotel stands high above the Hudson River, offering sweeping scenic views.
674 Thayer Rd., West Point, N.Y. 800-247-5047. thethayerhotel.com. Rooms from $129.

2. Lambertville House Hotel
Lambertville House Hotel . Presidents Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant are among the big names who have stayed at this former stagecoach stop on the road between New York and Philadelphia. Built in 1812, the once-derelict inn on the main street of small-town Lambertville, N.J., is now a lovely 26-room boutique hotel with all the amenities — and loads of amiability.

3. Inn at Warner Hall
Inn at Warner Hall . A plantation belonging to Augustine Warner I, George Washington’s great-great-grandfather, first graced the land beneath this bed-and-breakfast in 1642. (Warner’s other descendants include Robert E. Lee and Queen Elizabeth II.) The waterside location in Gloucester County, Va., makes for a peaceful retreat.
4750 Warner Hall Rd., Gloucester, Va. 800-331-2720. www.warnerhall.com. Rooms from $195.

4. Colonial Williamsburg
Historic housing in Colonial Williamsburg . While studying law in 1760, Thomas Jefferson rented a room in the Market Square Tavern. 5. Historic Hotel Bethlehem
Historic Hotel Bethlehem . Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton all rested their chief-executive heads at this 1922 Pennsylvania hotel built by Bethlehem steel magnate Charles M. Schwab. Even older history? The hotel sits on the site of the first house in town, where Moravian missionaries gathered on Christmas Eve 1741 and named their settlement Bethlehem.

6.The Georgian Terrace
The Georgian Terrace . An Atlanta Beaux-Arts belle on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel hosted early 20th-century presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge. Some of the rooms are tiny, but you can escape to the rooftop pool for panoramic city views.

7. The Fairfield Inn
The Fairfield Inn . Earlier stories notwithstanding, President Dwight D. Eisenhower probably never made it here in his lifetime, but his widow, Mamie, dined at this inn and tavern not far from the couple’s Gettysburg farm. The inn dates from 1757, and its backyard was the site of the town of Fairfield’s own Civil War battle in 1863. You’ll feel the age of the place in such charming features as sloping floors and creaking doors, but the added modern touches, including TVs, free WiFi and private bathrooms, bring it right up to date.

8.Congress Hall
Congress Hall . President Benjamin Harrison made this Cape May, N.J., hotel his summer White House. Other visitors of presidential pedigree include Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Ulysses S. Grant. The beachside grande dame is open year-round, and winter visitors can enjoy playing musical chairs in front of the wood-burning fireplace in the Brown Room, also known to locals as “Cape May’s living room.”
